Into Appalachia
I work in photography, film, and multimedia Visual arts. My work is often set in the Appalachian Mountains, where I have lived my whole life. I use older cameras and other analog technology on top of digital media to produce an aged/ analog aesthetic within the horror spaces I create. I use this aesthetic in tandem with Appalachian folklore, cryptids, and horror stories that I have grown fond of throughout my time in the area. I use techniques to degrade and age my materials, embracing unpredictability and uncertainty. I aim for my work to capture the viewer’s interest by creating an immersive environment. I want to encourage the feeling of curiosity, unsettlement, and fear. I aim to encourage others to question reality by altering everyday visuals subtly to feel uncanny; allowing space for the viewer to question what is real
